The Collectors Office is responsible for collecting all real and personal property taxes for Burke County, the Town of Rhodhiss, and the Town of Glen Alpine. All other municipalities collect their own real and personal property taxes. The tax notices for real and personal property are mailed in mid July. For 2011 Burke County offered a 2% discount for payment in July and 1% for Payment in August. Taxes become due on September 1st and become delinquent on January 6, 2012. Interest will accrue on propety tax bills at the rate of 2% the first month and 3/4 of 1% each month thereafter until paid.

The first of February each year the collector will mail delinquent tax notices giving taxpayers until the last day February to pay and avoid their name being advertised in the newspaper. All parcels with 2011 delinquent taxes on March 1st will be advertised.

All delinquent tax bills are subject to enforced collection methods as allowed by North Carolina General Statute. These are, but are not limited to Garnishment, Bank Attachment, N.C. Income Tax Attachment(Debt Setoff), and Foreclosure.
